Foods To Lower Your Cholesterol In Your Diet

Foods that can lower your cholesterol are around you all the time, you just may not be aware of what they are. Are you concerned about the side effects of taking cholesterol medication and are looking to lower your cholesterol naturally by eating foods that that will fight your bad cholesterol? Often a few small changes to your diet will help to lower your cholesterol level and getting you feeling well and healthy again.

 

Experts recommend that you eat a diet which is high in fiber, have foods with fish oils and use garlic to spice up the taste. These are just a few suggestions along with considering these foods in your weekly eating plan in order to lower your cholesterol level.

Soy products

Cholesterol lowering foods such as Soy is very effective. The recommended daily intake is one to two ounces or 25 grams of soy. This amount will help you lower your bad cholesterol level by around 8% -10%. You may want to consider eating some of the following: beans, soy milk, flour and tofu. You also may want to consider soy drinks and protein bars which typically contain 10 to 20 grams of soy protein.

Fiber Sources such as fruits & vegetables and oats

Foods that are rich in fiber are considered as cholesterol lowering foods. Your parents always encouraged you to eat your fruit and vegetables and they were right. As fiber is not easily digested it can help lower an individuals cholesterol level. The best fruits to develop a love for are berries, oranges, apples, honey dew melon or cantaloupe, and grapefruit. The best vegetables to fall in love with are carrots, cabbage, beets, spinach, broccoli and peas.
Oats contain a soluble fiber call Glucan which plays a critical role in lowering cholesterol. Whole grains are classified as cholesterol lowering foods. It is best to avoid foods such as white bread becuase they are over processed and therefore stripped of their fiber content.

Fish

Fish contains omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids which decrease the chances of getting blood clots. Fish is a good source of cholesterol lowering foods because they help an individual achieve a level of good or LDL cholesterol.

Garlic

Studies have shown that garlic is a cholesterol lowering foods. If you are concerned about the taste or smell of garlic on your breath, you may want to consider taking odorless coated garlic tablets. They will give you the same effect.

Cholesterol lowering foods should be an essential element of a healthy eating plan. BY making a few small changes in your daily eating habit and include some of the above foods in your weekly shopping list. By doing this, you will be taking positive steps in helping to reduce your cholesterol level. As well as that, it is recommended that you start a regular exercise program that you enjoy. Keep it simple - do it just a few times a week and then build up from there.

By starting with a few small changes especially in regard to eating cholesterol lowering foods, you will be surprised with how you feel within only a few months.
